Hello and well done on completing the race. The conditions were certainly "interesting". Not much to add to what Chieffy and Michelle have said, but I'll hazard a guess that the sharp responses on this thread weren't from PLS members, who really did our very best on Sunday to make the race a good experience for everyone. As you've noted yourself, the conditions in the offroad section following the very heavy rain in the preceding days, would have justified a no headphones rule, even if it weren't a UKA rule. I was marshalling in the park and you may be amused to hear we spent the morning moving standing water and broken tree branches, marking potholes as well as tree roots and positioning marshals in such a way that we were able to warn runners about upcoming hazards. I know how you feel about music as I recall feeling the same way in my first few races. But honestly, club races, marshalled by people who know *exactly* how painful it is because they've been there and done it and will give you lots of support, are a really good opportunity to try losing the crutch... |
