I'll be honest... more running.. and more regularly.

Ignoring all the other aspects of fitness that will be demanded of you, running at least 3/4 times for varying distances and at various speeds/effort levels will probably yield the best improvement in your 1.5 mile time

Find someone else to run with - no better motivation than to exercise with someone else and you have the opportunity to chat etc. as you go.

More importantly, if you're holding a conversation, you'll be running at the correct pace.

I would say get it in on saturday... when you know that you have two days (and almost 72 hours) to fully recover.
