FB has forgotten to mention the Skedaddle trip we did to Spain for New Year 2008/9. Apart from the atrocious weather (it poured nearly all the time - broken bridges, slippery rocks etc. - it was an excellent trip - well guided and interesting. Good mix of people - mostly experienced (and fit) bikers. Only one short "carry" section and, due to the weather, plenty of riding thru mud! Excellent new year festivtities in a small town in the mountains and a final ride to the finish on the beach (in the rain). Just needed some sun to make it truly enjoyable.
RUN: (AKA waddle/walk). Keeping it short….. it hurt. This is the bit where training had let me down. Hang in, plod on and just get there. Lots of help from amazing support all around the course. Walked a lot, grumbled loads, saw Cake a lot, kissed FB when I saw him. Hugged loads of people on the last lap and just kept walking!
Then AJH came up to me and started me running again (MY FEET HURT). Had to walk again and made friends with a first timer who gave me the strength to run once more “we can get under 14 if we push on now” – to the Pirate support at the start of the final lap around the lake. Kept shuffling, until Wifey appeared – like a blessing from Pirate Heaven (LOL). Sent her off for some sensible run time and told her to come and get me later! Thanks Wifey!!
The finish line appeared and I went for it! (will someone tell me where this extra energy suddenly comes from?) Feeling totally out of control of anything my legs were likely to do, I made it in just over 13.40.
Well how did that happen? SUPPORT, SUPPORT, SUPPORT. Pirate people are amazing.
BIKE: Whoooooooooo here we go! This is what I like and what I’m good at. Take it easy, don’t push it and you’ll be fit for the run (LOL).
Thanks Pirates – best feed station – ever. Thanks Fraggle for suddenly appearing after 2 years! Beat the bloke in the tent next to us – Overtook him on the last lap ‘cos he needed a pee! (top down, woodpecker on and wiLly out!).
Headed for home chasing an *rs* that had overtaken me 10 minutes before. We rode thru the Springman’s stately seat together, but forced my way to the front on entering T2! (little victories). She promptly dropped her kecks and pee’d in the corner of the change tent – NICE!
SWIM: Previous IM swims 1.13, 1.14, 1.14. 2 3.8 swims this year no where near. Head for pen 2.
Hooter. Will all these people please get out of my way? Stop. Start. Swear. Start. Weed. Start. Kicked in the mouth, then arm trapped in wee ( no that should read weed), then stranded on a raft. Green stuff hanging from goggles (attractive!). Swans in convoy – nice! At the end and out of the water in …………………. 1.13 (consistent!) Wetty won’t do what its supposed to so unfortunately resorted to sitting on the tarmac having rubber tugged from my legs by bloke I’ve never seen before (and probably never will see again).
Date: Autumn 2009….. Outlaw entries open. First mistake. Entered.

Excuses over. Committed to the event I determined to DO IT. FB always positive about a finish, always helping me train, always there when I cried.
