Its certainly friendly at the back of the pack and with the Pirates whose support is legendary for all.

Not sure if its quite as friendly at the front of the pack, there was a bit of an issue with last year with one of the GBR Women swearing during an ITU race cos the rest of the pack wouldnt take their turn to allow her to draft

Was that Jodie Swallow at London?  It didn't come across well on TV but I heard from a couple of the women that were up there and Jodie herself and it wasn't meant or taken as abusive but just part of encouraging each other to work together as a pack.

I'm a referee and obviously you can see a different side.  However, I find triathletes a really friendly bunch.  Many will come and say thank you and if they do anything wrong in the heat of a race, they will often apologise.  I DQd someone once that told me to F off as I asked him to stop and refasten his helmet rather than get a 2 minute penalty, and DQd someone who swore at a marshall when he didn't think he was clear enough, but that guy was soooooo apologetic to the marshall later and was mortified he'd done it.  Spencer Smith was abusive in transition at the relays a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't nice to witness, but to be fair he did eventually apologise a few days later online.

Just popped over from Tripe Talk (Tailender on there) to say well done to a great Pirate show racing and spectating again this year.  I wasn't racing this year but was marshalling in the women's/old gits transition.  Gave everyone wearing Pirates gear the biggest shout of encouragement I could so if you were wondering who the fat bloke in transition was or at the run turn around point, that was me.  I know I got to speak to a few of you as well, especially when checking your bikes on the way out of transition and trying to get you to take cards advertising the Outlaw!!

Hope you all had a fun day.

Minardi, don't worry, you will be fine.  It isn't so much that the course is hilly but that it is never flat.  By that I mean it constantly goes up and down.  A few years ago I described it as relentlessly undulating a description that many people agree with.

If you want to get some practice in, come up to Horncastle and run in the Wolds.  Its pretty similar terrain.

 Oh yeah.  Good luck
