I got terrible shin splints when I first started running, to the point where I nearly gave up. I wasn't even going very far either. I had to sort it and I found these exercises on the web:

http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/0161.htm

I followed all the instructions and felt improvement right away.

Been running for more than three years now with no further problems.

I've had a pair of these for over two years, and use them three times a week for around 45 mins at a time. Good sound and good value too.

After reading reviews on here, was looking for one of these and found a briliant price at www.gaiamdirect.co.uk. They are 2004 watches (I think) which have never been out the box, and so to all intents and purposes are brand new. 2-year guarantee. Ordered mine one day, arrived the next. Works great.

I used (touch wood) to suffer from shin splints badly. Would wake up in the middle of the night due to the pain sometimes. However, if you do the right exercises it makes a huge difference. Here's a link:

Scroll down for the exercises. They work brilliantly, even to the point of providing a degree of instant relief. I would have given up running by now without them.
