FB - I completely agree again, and I'm definitely NOT only interested in runners who are in the limelight. The ones achieving greatness quietly are, in many ways, more interesting. I've just had a look at Shades' thread - brilliant! Keep them coming!

CM - A big hand to your dad; what a man - please wish him all the best with his recovery.

Yeah, that's true Buddha.

I guess I'm just fascinated by people who push themselves through extreme pain - partly because I truly can't understand how and why they do it. (Regular, moderate training is plenty tough enough for me.) Needless to say, I have huge respect for living legends like Ron Hill.

I'm not interested in discovering what exactly is or is not mad - I just really like hearing about completely, amazingly dedicated runners and their running feats.

Come on guys, I didn't mean mad in any literal or derogatory sense!

I just mean 'mad' in the colloquial sense, as in, extremely unusual, and difficult - maybe impossible - to understand as an outside observer.

I read an interview with Ron Hill the other day, and the man is nuts - he's run at least a mile every day for the past 40-odd years, even with serious injuries and illness.

It got me thinking, there must be hundreds of bonkers runners out there. So, my question is - who's the maddest? I think it'd be great fun to compile a shortlist. Your suggestions, please...

I don't care if they're non-famous; just put forward your nomination's name and explain why he/she is the maddest of the mad.

Thanks!

I've just won one of these breathing gizmos (yeah, lucky me, I know).

What I want to know is, do they work? Is it worth bothering with (every day!), or I am better off training more to get faster!?
