Well, for me this was tough, tough - as said in the threads so cold with the water ,roads flooded, 5 mins slower than last years marlow half, and 8 minutes slower than my last half, in sept, maidenhead which is flat. Many thanks to all on the course who cheered and cajoled me and other runners on. My time was 1:54:16 , for a 57 year fellow. Not complaining, it rained 3 years ago, but was not as flooded, and that was slower than normal, so anyone running this , ensure you are hill fit ! And do not mind getting very wet.
Hi, emma some many years ago, I used to run around virginia water from approx 1/2 mile away and we clocked the distance at 7 miles, but around the longer way.... so if you go this way two rounds would do !.
I also asked about the elite runners for the bracknel 1/2 and it is a mix of all, the results are on the bracknell site for the last half, so I have entered the 1/2 for the veterans ! being a plodder like me.
and to aching the next day, ensure you take in a lot of eloctolytes, these you loose on long runs, and take some time to put back naturally....
I am looking to do a half , my first this year, and to be honest first in 20 years, since my last, I have been training and longest run is 11.3 miles up over knowle hill maidenhead area. are most the runners elite'ist or more fun runners like me who do it for fitness ! looking to do 8m miles or thereabouts. replies so that I can make my mind up... thanks Chris
Hi, All, on the body fat "gadgets" I have had one for 3 years now, and did not use it for 18 months, and guess what , I put on 1 stone in weight., and just did the odd run, as I was nursing a strained/tear muscle(thigh), after sprinting too much for too long, anyway, well done for losing weight, and keeping a training regime in place, because it is this that will keep all of you well "balanced" in terms of weight and body fat.Interestingly women have much more body fat than men anyway.
I follow the rule that 14% is good for me, I am down to a good weight then as well. I know when the weight is correct, the belt comes down a notch !.
and the body fat scales tell me I am at about 14%, it always comes back to the same !. So it is really a confidence thing in the end ! so save yourself some money.
