Hi Katie and all...Hope you don't mind me joining in.
I too am running FLM but have never ran a full marathon before. I've ran 3 "half's" in 1:51 1:52 x2 so would like to think I could run a full in the time you are all going for too. I don't belong to a running club I just scout on tinternet for running plans and keep my fingers crossed that I stay injury free.
Katie... I am so pleased to hear that someonelse suffers from ITB. I have had physio, sports massages and special insoles made but still suffer from the blessed condition. In June I was given a steroid injection which was a wonder drug. It enabled me to do sprints (unable to do speed work as it irritates ITB) and to knock 1min off my mm pace. Unfortunately that all changed the end of Aug as slowly but surely the symptons started to return so I am very cautious with my runs. I tend to run 6 - 8 miles a day, four times a week at a comfortable pace. The furthest i've ever ran so far is 15m in 2h20 which was fine but i could feel my knee starting to ache.
What concerns me after reading eveyones threads is the importance of speed work. This is what flares up my condition... Do you think it's achieveable 4h20 without the speed work? Also quick descends are painful too!!
I may sound like a wimping willow but I am looking forward to running FLM, it's just the unknown that worries me!!!
If anyone has a running plan to suit then please email it to me... Just off for a run..Bye for now ...
Talking of poorliness... been sent home from work today after a case of the "thrupenny bits", which probably explains why I've had no inclination to go and do a run!!!
Thanks so much for your support.. it's reassuring listening to you all. I guess it's just a case of the unknown.
Been trying to wear in my orthotic insoles that I received finally yesterday, before I go out running in them. I suffer with ITB (hubby just thinks it's all in the mind!!) so hopefully now i've got these permanent ones all will be plain sailing from here on!
TopSec... where in the world are you? I'm guessing USA?
Delia.. I too work in a school. Nursery nurse at a SLD school. Don't wish gloat... but only got 1 teaching day left and it looks like i won't be in for that anyway..
Have a good evening all... just going to do my cheeky blip around Sainsbury's for the end of day bargains. This credit crunch has given me a new craze..Can't resist a good bargain!!!
Evening all... new to the convo but i'm also having anxiety moments... Just been accepted for FLM 2009 and only ever ran half. P**hing myself. It's strange really. Usually gutted cos i've not been accepted but now that i have, it's still a negative reaction!! Can't win.. Good luck to u all on Sunday. Weather is meant to be fine...
hi Jenni W.. when i ran last year i remember seeing a Holiday Inn on the other side of the main road from the start. Literally a 2 min walk away. Have browse on tinternet to see if any good.
Due to personal circumstances i went out Saturday night with friends for a drink or two and ended up doing the splits.. 3 times. On the third occasion i felt my hamstring tweak. Subsequently have been walking around rather strangely and in discomfort.I'm also v.annoyed with myself as this has temporarily hampered running/training. Any ideas as to how long to leave not running for & what to do at the gym instead?... From a v.disgruntled rich tea who wants to become a "Hob Nob"
Hi all... just come back in after travelling to watch son and his Midlands rugby team get totally stuffed by the North in a game in front of England selectors... those blooming Northeners know their stuff. Anyway...less of that. Thanks all for words of encouragement. I'm really up for run now and tonight i'm going to fill in application form for this race. Thanks DW i'm going to give the site a look.
