Hi MM, how's your running going?
Sh*t. For those of you unaware, I tore my plantar fascia last Feb and from then on, I seemed to have a problem with my back. Looking back on it, I think 20+ years of being very physically active and also 6'2" combined with the same amount of time with doing desk bound jobs contributed to a prolapsed disc (L5/S1). This wasn't diagnosed until I had an MRI in August and then things seemed to get worse to the extent that I was unable to drive (or be driven, or even sit at a desk for longer than 5 mins). It all reached a head in October/November when I saw a private consultant (paid for by the NHS) who recommended surgery in 4/6 weeks. 48 hrs after seeing him I collapsed in the kitchen with a loss of functional strength in my left leg. I then had a lumbar discectomy 6 days later as a priority (no f***ing sh*t!) and it was like flicking a switch in terms of my ability to climb stairs, sit down, etc.
I bascially haven't run since Feb last year and this year is a write-off as well if I'm honest. I'm back on the bike no problems keeping up an aerobic component and am in the gym lifting weights 4 times a week ok as well. Currently managing Parkruns with my 7 yr old so 34-37min times but not sure about the ability to run anything quicker than 8m30s pace.
I turn 40 in a few weeks and I had harboured dreams of running sub 3 once I turned into an OAP but that dream has been shelved for a while. The general idea is to make a return to sc racing in the Autumn and maybe look at Wokingham 2014 as a main target race

Met up with Knight Rider tonight at the local 5 mile in Coventry. Nice to catch up with him and have a chat. I didn't race as I am still not running and it's 12 weeks tonight since I tore my plantar fascia but I hope to return to running soon. Needless to say my year so far is a write off and I hope to do something before Dec 31st but it's not looking great so far.

Keep on keeping on peeps
