My friend has been told (by a national chain) that motion control shoes can cause achilles tendonitis and that they should switch to a neutral shoe with a cushioned insole?

I don't know what sort of foot they have, but if we presume the initial advice (from a local running shop) to get motion control shoe suggests a bit of pronation, wouldn't a neutral with cushioned insole do the same? When I was told I over-pronated I had neutral shoes and the osteopath told me to get cushioned insoles until I needed new shoes then get the motion control.

I've never heard of this advice before, hence this querying thread.

Can anyone enlighten me on this?

I'm looking to start some interval training.  Regular runner getting about 25-30 miles in per week.  Current 10K is around 50 minutes, put looking to get that down to around 47.5 minutes (gotta have a target!).

Thinking of starting with 4 x 4minutes at 5K race pace (open to suggestions though).

My question is, by what should I increase this by?

Should I do 5 x 4 minutes and increase the reps, or should I increase the time and do 4 x 5 minutes?

 Thanks in advance
