I'm in again despite grumbling at the price. Every year I run it I'm disappointed it costs so much, but then I seem to keep coming back.
I love this event (having grown up in Stratford), but it's never as competitive at the sharp end as it should be for such a 'big' race - I suspect the high price puts a lot of quicker runners off. Shame!
I've only just looked at the course route (had just assumed that it was the same as it's always been), but have noticed the start isn't on Waterside, but is actually on high street/chapel st with a different loop around the town (past Shakespeares Birthplace).
I missed last years race (was running london instead), so is this course change new for this year? or was it like this last year as well?
Greenway is certainly much more of an issue for those opting for the marathon since lap 2 uses a longer stretch than lap 1... the latter miles of a marathon are always going to hurt, but at stratford it tends to hurt along the greenway, and the scenery is pretty repetitive so you may well find yourself running along what feels like an endless white chalky path.
That said... at least it's pancake flat!
For the half marathon the greenway is only a couple of miles, and I think it very much depends on how much you're hurting, and how many others are around you on the course as to how bareable it is. Personally I don't mind it at all.
