The Loch Ness Marathon will be my 61st marathon in my 60th year and I am running it for the Stroke Association. In 1992 I suffered a brain haemorrhage. Following balloon embolisation in 1993 I recovered completely. With medical approval I started to run and ran my first marathon in 1996. The most wonderful experience on 10 September this year was running the World Masters Mountainrunning Championships in Keswick in the W60 age group where I came in 10th.

Most welcoming spectator support over the full marathon course, with Oompah bands, jazz bands and music. Water and Extran every 5K. [Extran is really good]. Perfect marathon conditions on the day. A definite 'must do again' if only for the fantastic organisation and crowd encouragement. Also - T-shirt for once really fits well and is of good quality. This year all runners also received a duffle bag holdall. Hotel brilliant - just by the start line. Flight and hotel booked online. Easy train from Schipol direct to Rotterdam. Superb [and cheap] break. Might suggest a club trip for next year
