I'm hoping that someone can provide a recommendation for shoes or ideas to solve achilles pain. Basically, when I don't wear shoes, I have no pain, but all shoes give me achilles pain due to the shape of the back of the shoe which rubs against the area.
I've tried buying a cheap pair of canvas shoes and cutting out the back heel, and this works perfectly for a few miles but the shoes frayed and split very quickly. Does anyone know of any special shoes without the back heel support? Or any other ingenious ideas to help other than chopping up my trainers!?
Can anyone recommend any websites with calendars for upcoming ultra races (European)? I'm looking to find details of upcoming 24 hour races and, other than the self transcendence 24 hour, I can't find any upcoming races in the UK.
Even better, if anyone knows of any 24 hour races before the end of the year, can you please let me know!?
I use Mizuno Wave Mushas and Sauchony Fasttwich's which do me well up to marathon distance. I'm running my second ultra in a couple of weeks and I'm getting worried about these shoes as I get bof pain when I get close to marathon distance.
I'm looking to buy a cheap-ish pair of shoes with more cushioning. I still want them to be as light as possible as that's what I'm used to, just a bit more cushioning.
I've been training recently for an ultra in a few weeks time and have been doing a lot of long runs. For the past few weeks I've been getting an odd sensation in my right hamstring. Its not a pain as such but whenever I'm running my hamstring/knee feels quite delicate.
After 5 or 6 miles my hamstring, right above the inside of my knee, will start spasming. It only lasts for a few seconds and maybe only once every mile or so, but it is enough to make me slow right down until it goes away.
I'm now worried that I'm going to have to pull out of the race. Does anyone know what could be causing the spasms and any particular stretches etc I can do to try to stop them? Would RICE help?
