| My longest toes are the ones next to my big toe too - and they sometimes go numb when I run. I also notice that if I cut my toenails too short on these toes I get very rubbed and thickened skin on the end of the toes - it doesn't happen so long as my toenail is there to protect the end of my toe a bit. Not quite the same as a black toenail, but I wonder if it's caused by the same problem - you *think* you've bought nice roomy trainers, but you realise later that you were checking the length from your big toe to the end of the shoe, not from your *longest* toe to the end of the shoe. I think my shoes (even though they make my feet look like boats) may be too short.... |

Thanks Wee Stumpy and Michele - I'm taking your advice. It's been over 2 weeks now, and it's still swollen and stiff although not so sore - I am seeing a physio tomorrow.
:¬(
I guess I was over-eager and dosed up on co-codamol before - this is going to take weeks/months to resolve I now think...
Oh well - I shall have to sit on the sofa and eat pies! |

I fell off the back doorstep on Monday! (stone cold sober AND wearing my stability trainers btw...)
Bad sprain to right ankle, but xray reveals no break. I've been on crutches for 3 or 4 days, but decided to leave them at home today and hobble to work. Foot from toes to mid calf is blue and swollen still. The joint feels a little tender, but mostly just stiff - I think it is improving quite quickly, and certainly nothing like the excrutiating pain when i first did it!
If it's not actually hurting, and is mostly just stiff from the swelling, is it OK to start walking/stretching it more? Someone gave me the tip of 'writing the alphabet' with the bad foot (I sit at a desk all day) as that should encompass the full range of movements in the ankle. Should I start doing this or leave it another couple of days?
I only started runing in the summer for the Windsor RFL, but I think the injury would have been worse if I'd been totally unfit - I want to get back to the running ASAP tho.... |

If you're looking to work out distances, try this:
http://www.cbell.info/maps/index.php?PHPSESSID=325be8e8b4d1170bfc531b24d5d90800
This is ActiveRoutes - based on Google Maps - you plot your route and it tells you how far you've gone... Not checked it for accuracy though, and am only a begiiner, but it 'feels' about right. |

Well - went for another run this evening, and flew! Much cooler tonight, and made sure I wasn't dehydrated before I started. Made the 20 mins, then 25, and felt so good I just kept going. Funny thing happened when i had to stop to cross a road - my legs wouldn't stop and I ended up running on the spot! Is that normal?? Got to 30 mins and still felt fine - ended up stopping after 33 mins because I ran out of route (always finish at Sainsburys so I can walk about their chiller isles!). Feeling great, and well pleased with myseldf because I think I ran nearly 3 miles, but a bit worried - am I overdoing it?? If I feel good, should I keep going or stick rigidly to the schedule? |
