Right, so on the surface this seems kind of trivial. Having had a flu type illness, how do you get back to running the distances you were before? I know the general platitudes of 'take it slowly' and 'listen to your body' are definitely important and you should do both, but I think I might need some more advice than that. For instance, before I was ill, I was running 30k for my long runs and was comfortable enough to run a slow 10k the day after. How long should I really plan to take to get back up to 30k for my long runs? Is it just like starting again or can I increment in bigger jumps than when I first started?
I know that some of this is common sense, but the reason I am asking is I have form for coming back from injury or illness (mostly injury, until I started spending time around children, I didn't really get sick) too quickly and then being broken for a long, long time. I really don't want to ruin things because I've really been enjoying running lately and it'd be quite easy for me to be an idiot again. Please help me not be an idiot!
