Would just like to say a we bit on the Belfast marathon, having run it 11 times in the last 12 years ( pacing the last 4 )

Yes the relay can be annoying at times but no relay means no marathon they need it for the money it brings in ( the relay also helps bring people into our sport )

The old chestnut of water in cups, its them council who wont allow the to use bottles

The route is dictated by the police to which roads they can use

In short Belfast not perfect but it our home marathon and think we should support it and hopefully people power can get us the changes needed to make it the best it can be

David if your aim is just to complte the ultra then 50-60 miles a week is more enough.A few things I would try would be to try back to back long run to get used to running on tired legs, practise eating when running, inclued walk breaks. I also would max my long slow runs at say 24 miles, when i started going further than marathon distance for my first ultra i started getting injured , Good luck

Well happy with my new P.B of  3hrs 17mins, which inclued two pee stop's

As for the missing mile markers during the run I was thinking I had just missed them but they by reading the posts on hear it seem they were really missing
