Hopefully your Doc was right but i didn't get any bruising until i had the actual complete break. A hairline fracture can niggle for months until the bone can take no more, as i found out. Im just a bit worried for you as you keep mentioning the word 'niggle'! Mine niggled for about 2 months & the niggle did shift around my foot .But as the pain got worse it was across the top. Do you get pain under your foot when you walk, across the ball of your foot? I do hope im not worrying you too much after all it could just be something or nothing....fingers crossed for you. I know London is only a race but if your anything like me it means alot to be able to take part.
I have been reading all the threads on this & cant believe there are so many people out there with the same problem as me. I am getting very frustrated with this as every time i do speed work or a quicker race i get tightness in my shin, calf then my ankle. It eventually goes numb & i have no choice but to stop. Idon't tend to suffer so much on longer races or longer training runs. I am training for London & im upto 19 miles & i don't seem to suffer so much. Yesterday i ran a 4.4 mile race which after 2 miles i was suffering big time & had to stop.I really think i need to stop all speed work to see if this helps.Anymore suggestions....please!!!
Yeah i totally agree, rest if in dought. Because i was not told what the problem was i just kept training so yes made it worse. Although mine was a bad break & i was in plaster, when i came out of it i was told not to cycle for a while because you are still putting presure through the foot. I borrowed an aqua jogging belt & that did me the world of good. You can still keep up the fitness but putting no strain through the foot, if you can get one of those Carl then that would be ideal. Hope this helps.
Hi Carl...i really don't want to worry you but that just sounds like what i had this time last year. I to was training for London but started getting slight pain accros the top of my foot (near my toes). I got concerned so went to my Doc's where i had an x-ray that showed up nothing so carried on thinking it was just the extra miles i was putting in. At the end of March i did an off road race & stood on a large stone which caught the exact spot where i'de been having the niggle. The pain then got alot worse & was painful when i got out of bed & started to move. Istill just carried on trying to get my long runs in as i was desperate to run the marathon. Well i did it but @ about 19 miles felt something 'go' in my foot & those last 7 miles were a nitemare but yes i finished in 4:11. I was in agony all the way home, my foot swelled so went to the hospital were they confirmed i'de broken my 2nd metatarsal. So all those weeks ide trained with a hairline fracture & didn't no it because it would be hard to have picked it up on an x-ray. I hope you haven't got the same, as i no it is very painful & i spent 18 weeks out (6 in plaster & 4 in an air-cast boot). It was made worse because i ran on it. Anyway i'm doing London again this year & hopefully all will go well. I really hope i haven't alarmed you & your's gets better quickly. But if it does get worse either rest for a while (i know that's hard) or go & see your doctor.....Good Luck
