This is my 10th City marathon in 5 years and my second favourite (apart from Edinburgh last year before they changed the course). The organisation was second to none. marshalling was fantastic and the support excellent. I loved the undulating first half and the second half was flat and scenic. I did not mind the trail type paths, they made for a change on the leg muscles and enjoying the small ups and down around Holme Point. I loved running past the stables with the kids having their lessons. I know people said the second half was boring with no spectator support, but I love running in the countryside and it was never really that sparse for runners anyway (not when I was running anyway). After realising with he breeze that this would not be a PB I kicked back and enjoyed the whole thing!! Thanks to the lads in the pub at mile 25, I would have loved to have taken the pint you held out to me, but thought it might not be a good idea at the time!!! My sister will be coming to do the half next year as I raved about it so much and I will definately come back for the full. Just a shame about the head wind breeze on the way, back, but hey ho, it was better than the rain and hail at Edinburgh!! Well done marshalls, organisers and all completers of both the full and half. It was a tough one for everyone, especially the second half, but I have never been so happy. hyper and enjoyed a race for a long time. One day I will hit my sub 4 hours, but I am really happy with my 4.09, just for the taking part in this one!!! |
