I had my splits for each mile on my wristband and was a minute under my expdected split at 9 miles, but by 10 miles I was a minute over - in effect saying I ran that mile in 9 and a half minutes after doing the rest in 7 and a half consistently?? Oh well, never mind got my pb anyway!
Just read the sad news on the BBC website that a 25 year old male runner died at today's run. Kind of puts things in perspective on what I thought was a very tough course. Condolences to friends and family of the young man.
What I would say is that the spectataors in this last two miles gave me just about enough to get over the line. Also, the spectator at 21 miles who willed me to run when all I wanted to do was sit on the pavement - I owe that guy my medal.
Today was my first marathon, it was sheer hell, I managed to run 16 miles and then it was stop start for the rest of the way. Had hoped for 3.45 and ended up with 4.10. Slowly ceased up from 20 miles on but at least managed to run the last mile, never again (till the next time!)
