Good work, Jevans and CJ. Cycling with a load can be hard work Chilli, it's probably more like training than anything I've managed.

I didn't get out. Very pre-occupied with thinking through all the possible combinations and locations and pros and cons of moving, and once I realised I couldn't swim where I wanted to, it all seemed like too much of a schlep.

But I must try to get back on track, at least somewhat.

Yay for new gear, Jevans!

I haven't been so off-colour that I've been completely inactive, just nothing that really counts as 'training'.

But I've just realised that my normal pool will be an unswimmable hell because of the school holidays, and there is no lane swimming tonight. So I'd have to schlep out to Crystal Palace, which doesn't attract leisure swimmers.

It's perfectly do-able, but I had in mind a more low-key excursion to my local pool to ease back in.

As JBiT says - see if you can find an alternative route, or try the main route and see how it feels. People do tend to overestimate the dangers. High visibility clothing and good lights if you'll be around after dark are always a good idea.

Some 60mph roads are fine, some are horrible, and some it really depends on the time of day. Some also have shared use pedestrian-cyclist footpaths, which may not be that apparent from the car, though they can be badly designed, forcing you into the road at busy points.

Do you see other cyclists on the route? That's sometimes a tell-tale sign about how comfortable cyclists find the ride, and also means that drivers are more aware of your presence if cyclists are a common sight.

I've been on holiday and then done a 10K race (Bolt round the Holt) since I was last on this thread. Allowed myself a few treats, but haven't put on any weight - still at 10st 8. I want to try to hold steady at around the ten and a half mark now. Just about a month till my tri.

Oh dear, poor Bootsie - maybe just a walk in the sunshine and consider it a taper?

I need to get my arse back in gear. I haven't swum for ages - except in the sea, which was hardly swimming. I must try to get to the pool today. I need to get back into training, but have been achey and not feeling 100%.
