i have a question on tapering my marathon is in 3 weeks and a few weeks ago i experienced pain in me legs last 2 mile on a long run, so i got my gait done and after twice been analysed previously as a neutral runner i now am an over pronator so was advised to get asics gel gt2000, so last week i missed on a long run, in between buying new shoes, so now i have to get in an 18 mile and 20 mile, not sure this is do able? I am going to do my 18 mile this week, what is your advise on tapering a week and a half before marathon or should i just do one more long run and taper? I know its a tight squeeze.
oh the shoes i have been running in i have done a few long runs in them now but each time been getting blisters, the older shoes i would say i have done a few hundred. this is my 1st 15 mile, have done a two 13 and a 12. i feel fine today but just legs were aching the last 2 mile.
i have just 4 weeks to go to a marathon and I am bit concerned, i have been kind of trying to play catch up having missed a few training sessions can i get this sorted out in 4 weeks?? done my long run of 15 mile yesterday, and when i reached mile 12, my legs were in agony, i had to end up walking my last 2 mile and its not like me usually i get stiff at that distance but manage to pull through. It s probably combination of things but i think perhaps i need to look at my trainers. at first i was getting blisters, so i got some anti-friction socks, but then yesterday i started to notice my feet were on fire, and i could feel them moving about a bit, perhaps my trainers are not snug enough?
i don't know if i should buy new trainers at this late stage or go back to my old ones but then i don't know if they provide enough support with already alot of miles on them? perhaps that is why i am getting the pain in my legs?
is there anything out there that helps with muscle repair after a long run, i know the usual ice baths, stretches, rehydrate but is there something that helps to ease the aches and pains after long runs?
