Difficult to change foot type = TRUE
Impossible = FALSE

The foot is not a rigid object. The are so many bones giving the potential for it to move in so many ways. Foot structure problems are nearly always down to the ligaments and muscles that control the positions and movements of the bones. These are soft tissues - they can adapt to the right stimuli.

Hi NRG-B, hope you are well.

I'm sorry we couldn't get to a universal resolution in the many POSE discussions. I gave up as i felt it was a lost cause no matter how well rationed my arguments. The fact that you feel all points against POSE were countered adequately is a further reflection of how different our opinions are.

I'm also sorry i couldn't give you a full account of what i consider a correct running action. I did explain at the time that human movement is very complex, and a full account would probably fill a book.

I didn't have the time to continue with those discussions, i'm trying to get my PhD finished.

Hi to Terry too - how alliterative!!

P.S. I have found barefoot very helpful. Just got one small cut after 4 weeks of barefooting on the roads - ran on grass in spikes today. When i'm earning i will try the Vibrams - hopefully they will give that bit of protection without losing too much feel.

I'm fit, healthy and slim - about 5'11 and 9st 5lbs.

The girlfriend is fit and healthy but at the higher end of normal healthy weight - about 5'9 and ~12st i guess.

What speeds do you normally run at? As someone else said, 4min / mile is really very good even if downhill.

Pop to a track and run some 200s in 30seconds - thats as near as damn it 4min pace. Was your downhill mile really as fast as that?

Really well done if it was.

Hi David,

My guess is either bursitis or mild achilles tendonitis. Which ever it is it sounds to me like it's in the early stages. Can you feel a painful place when prodding the area? If you can work out what's aggravating it and modify your activity accordingly then you may be able to sort it out without reducing training. Carrying on regardless (without addressing the cause) will probably result in it worsening.

No panic, just be careful.

Alex
