Runagain, I completely agree with your comments.I am 68 and had a total hip replacement nearly four years ago.It was nearly a year before I started running again but this was mainly due to contracting shingles which was not diagnosed for some time and has now left me with nerve damage which is very painful. However I have been back to running 5k and 10k races quite regularly over the past few years and am looking forward to more races soon.Providing you muscle up well and are sensible in respect of terrain there should be no problem with the hip joint. If anyone has any good ideas on pain relief for the shingles pnp,I should be grateful. |

| olive oil works for me most of the time, but there are occasions when I have to resort to syringing the ear myself to clear it.More troublesome in the hot weather for me.Not sexy but necessary. |

| I had a replacement hip fitted three years ago, following a period of pain and stiffness.Unfortunately my only real problem since then has been coping with the ,at times ,severe pain from PNP_Shingles which I left hospital with. However I have continued to run and am currently doing about 10 races a year, mainly 5 and 10k.My times are as good as before the OP.By the way,I am 67.My advice would always be to carry on doing what you enjoy, have an OP.when necessary and carry on as long as you enjoy .Good Luck. |

For many years I have run in Asics Nimbus with no problems at all.Even after 500 miles the outsoles showed very little wear. Now I am a lot older my feet have becombe flat with no arch showing on the wet test.Following some discomfort in my Plantar area I switched briefly to a support shoe which felt great for a while. After building mileage however,my forefeet became sore and I have switched back to cuishoned,Cumulus10 with an insole specially for flat feet. These seem to work OK but I am not happy with the fit of the Cumulus Any suggestions for an alternative shoe would be appreciated. |
