My calf exploded big time last night, half way through a 13 miler. I had a long and very painful walk home. Good job I'd packed a long sleeve merino wool top "just in case". So 38 days away from my marathon and I can't run for at least 2 weeks, will try cycling tomorrow, hopefully I can still keep the bike fitness going. Mind you, unless the Libyan bureaucrats give me & Mrs Mudman our visas, we won't be able to leave the country for the race.

Can you get access to a cross trainer machine in a gym ? Mind numbingly dull, but it's low impact. Or cycling, keep the cardio fitness levels, although you will lose some of the leg strength you develop through your LSRs.
I'm 38 days out from my marathon and my calf blew up again last night big time, so it's RICE+cycling+swimming for me for 3-4 weeks at least.

A quiet weekend for me, did the hash on Friday, which is like a 6-7km fartlek if you do it right. Yesterday I dug out my old MTB and did 30km on a dirt track, the bike still has road slicks on, so had some challenging times on the sand with the either the back end or the whole bike going sideways. I think next weekend's challenge will be cycle 20km, run 10km, then cycle 20km back home. Keeping the running volume down for a while to give the foot a chance to heal, while increasing the cycling to give my bum a chance to toughen up!

I did an 18 miler around the roads on Friday, which is always quiet before Friday prayer time. Not very nice roads, but made a change from my usual out & backs along the railway line. Got a bit of pain in my left foot, which I suspect is tendonitis, so I will take a break from running and have started cycling on my turbo trainer. Have also decided to organise the 1st ever Tripoli marathon, probably in November. I've got 2 people so far (Ok, one of them is me)but only want about 10, as it'll be a self supported race. So now I've got to spread the word and try to recruit more nutters

The weekend starts here!
An 18 miler for me tomorrow, water & Kendal Mint Cake. Hopefully not too hot in the morning so I won't suffer too much.
I'm off now to test the results of my experiments with non alcoholic beer + yeast + sugar
