One aspect of Scotland becoming independent that I never hear mentioned is the effect of losing all the Scottish MPs currently in Westminster - 41 are Labour and only 1 Conservative - making a Conservative majority in Westminster a lot more likely (for good or bad).
Assuming you have a day's rest between each of your sessions, I would suggest you can increase your pace on both the long run and the 5 miler, without danger of injury from lack of recovery time. Especially as your 10k time is improving each month, so you don't want too big a gap between your race pace and training pace.
Check out the one from last year that it replaced in the manufacturer's range, then buy this one instead at about half the price or less on Amazon or ebay.
The logic is that if it was good enough for all the runners who bought it last year, then it hasn't suddenly become rubbish just because the manufacturer has brought out a new one in a different colour for this year.
