Another voice from the distant past here. Bune kindly told me the sad news. Cathy was always lovely to me, especially when the vagaries of internet life got to me! She and her husband often visited the New Forest, where I've lived for six or seven years, and we almost met up a number of times, but somehow never quite made it; I very much regret that. Dear family of the lovely Beebs, I am so, so sorry for your loss xx
Had this on and off for years. The exercise described above certainly sounds similar to the one my osteopath gives me when I'm having a bad bout.
The three most useful things I've found are: changing from a manual to an automatic car (twas my left leg, obviously!); getting a 'wedge' cushion to use on flat chairs; using a 'kneeling chair' at my desk, where I spend too much time.
I'm interested in FitFlops, not so much for the 'bottom-toning' effect that most people go on about, but because they are the only shoe I can wear without my wretched orthotics. However, so far I've only tried the flipflop style; now they're bringing out some serious winter boots. However, they also carry a serious price.
