Hi William- that's really good news about the medal. Gosh- it sounds like I'm a bit hung up about the medal. ...but I do love my bling! Dips I really do like your strategy of adopting a run/walk from the outset and I'm aiming to discipline myself to do that There is so much conflicting advice around though- I saw a comment in Trail Magazine from an ultra runner who says something like " Well as we are all going to tire in the second half anyway, we might as well go as fast as possible in the first half of an ultra event! " I guess we only ever learn through trial and error and what works on one course maybe disastrous on another course ! Re training- I run to - and often from- work. This is really my main way of getting my mileage in. I've been running with my backpack recently to get used to it. I' haven't done much this week - will be 23 miles up until today then a longer run this weekend. I seem to have recovered from Milton Keynes marathon but don't want to push it! Last lot of shopping this weekend ..and then that's it *Logs on yet again to the long term weather forecast...* |

Number etc on the door mat last night! So so real now. Anyone else going to be obsessed with monitoring the weather reports over the next week?? I really really do hope that we get a medal if a few minutes after the cut-off! Obviously I'm aiming for the cut-off but it's untried territory! However the worst outcome would be to DNF. My 2 goals are these: A : Finish before the Cut off B: Finish! ( medal or not) No other time related goals at all unlike in marathons. Will definitely be leaving some shoes in the drop bag plus an abundance of foot-care materials. My aim it to inject regular walking breaks into the first half as well. I'm a devil for going off too fast in a marathon but I know this strategy simply won't work. Self-Discipline is the name of the game I say |

Hi guys- I'm running it too and getting so nervous now. Does anyone know if they are going to be very strict about the 15 hour cut-off? I assume that if we don't make this cut off we will be allowed to finish but not get a medal? |

I'm not going to enter the ballot - I'm just assuming/hoping that my GFA of 3:41:37 is a big enough margin for the required sub 4 for Female 50-54! I just wish there was greater clarification about the process now. My hope is that it will be online rather than snail mail as that creates too much angst... |

I can't believe how sore my quads are still today- it is years since I suffered like this after a marathon. I feel fine in myself but it is still very very painful going up and down stairs. Maybe I've lost some strength in my legs as I don't cycle as much as I used to or maybe it's simply the inexperience of down-hill running! |
