Media Release: Comrades Marathon Substitution Process opens
Comrades Marathon runners who were unable to enter the 2014 race during the official entry period (1 September – 30 November 2013) now have an opportunity to still be part of the world’s biggest and oldest ultra-marathon through the official 2014 Substitution process over the month of April.
The Comrades Marathon Association’s (CMA) Substitution Rule allows for a runner who has not entered to substitute an entrant who has withdrawn, or intends to withdraw from the 2014 edition of The Ultimate Human Race.
The Comrades Marathon Substitution Rule was introduced for the very first time in 2012 and now forms part of the CMA’s official race rules. The Substitution process officially opens on 1 April and closes on 30 April 2014.
The completed application forms as specified in the Substitution Rule must reach the CMA office by 30 April 2014. There will be no extension of this deadline.
Athletes still intending to submit Substitution application forms are advised to visit the official Comrades Marathon website at www.comrades.com for the downloadable forms and the comprehensive list of rules and regulations which govern the Substitution process.
Race Director Rowyn James says, ‘The Substitution Rule has been very well received by our runners over the past two years and will ensure that there is a higher number of starters outside the Pietermaritzburg City Hall on 1 June 2014.’
Hi Folks. Just ask for a course tour band (for your wrist) when you pick up your number from the expo and it's free. If you have already paid & can use that one for a non-runner travelling with you...then great. Otherwise, please email the Comrades office...they are pretty good with these things. The Friday coach tours are usually much busier than the Saturday ones...although going around on Saturday can be a bit tiring before the great race. Happy training
Hi Folks. Need to get a move on if you haven't entered the ultimate human race for 2014 yet. We have until tomorrow
Media Release: 2014 Comrades Marathon Entry Process Closes
It’s the final countdown! Avid Comrades Marathon runners have only until the close of business tomorrow to get their entry in and secure their place at the Start of the 2014 ‘Ultimate Human Race’.
The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has decided to close the entry process tomorrow, effectively a day prior to the originally planned closure due to the cap of 18,000 entries being reached ahead of schedule. The cap was implemented in the recent past for logistical and organizational purposes; with the race being oversubscribed since 2009.
However, the CMA will allow Comrades Marathon enthusiasts who have not yet entered the iconic race, to make their entry before close of business tomorrow (Friday, 29 November 2013 at 16h30), at which time online entries and in-house entries at the Comrades Marathon offices will close.
CMA General Manager, Chris Bruwer says: ‘We will still accept postal entries but they must be postmarked by the Post Office with tomorrow’s date, 29 November 2013. Entries made after this date will be rejected.’
Runners who are going to submit their entry via post are reminded to submit their entry form and proof of payment, using one of the following options; cheque, postal order or direct deposit.
All cheques, postal orders and direct deposits must be made payable to the Comrades Marathon Association. Please post your entry to Comrades Marathon Association, PO Box 100621, Scottsville, 3209. No late entries will be accepted.
South Africa’s most celebrated running event has experienced a heightened interest since its recognition by the Guinness World Records for being the planet’s biggest ultra-marathon in 2010 as well as being the winner of the Virgin Active Sport Industry Awards for South Africa’s ‘Best Sport Participation Event’.
The iconic road running race also enjoys its recognition as Africa’s oldest marathon and ultra-marathon at the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
Naturally, the official organizing body of the event, the CMA is geared up for another fantastic staging of the renowned race. The 2014 Comrades Marathon will be run for the 89th time since the race was first staged in 1921. The start gun fires off in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday, 1 June 2014 and ends 12 hours later in Durban.
