Looking at this again, I think I will rent one out there, save on the aggravation of buying new bits, renting a bike box and some spannering. The hire bikes are quite cool and have lower gears - good result all round for 80 euros ! |

But 10k at 10% gradient has got me very worried (I have about a month left) Oh and I should add the next day (after Ventoux) we have the small matter of a 130m jaunt down to the coast, so am keen to keep a high gear if possible, |

| Morning All, After some advice, in a few weeks I am off to cycle to the top of Mount Ventoux, the overall climb is 2000m in 21km, but the middle 10k is around 10% gradient and well known as unrelentingly 10%. I am currently on a 18 speed Comp Allez, with Ultegra cranks etc. Currently I am I would say a fairly capable cyclist, I am knocking off a hilly 45m in around 2 hours, 10 minutes. However I am seriously worried that I need granny gears for this. Any experiences, please don't go to technical to quick on gear ratios, I think mine is 53/35 front. Can I even fit a triple to this ? |

I run with a Lab/Retreiver. she has done all my long runs for marathon training 20+ miles so stamina not an issue. No good as a defence though, might lick someone to death. However the type of dog is pretty irrelevant in an attack situation. The mere fact that the dog is there adds an unpredictability that will put most attackers off their stroke |
