So many really good, well organised, long established, popular, grass roots, charity supporting, volunteer organised road races have fallen off the race calendar in recent years. The single biggest factor in this is often the crippling Traffic Management costs that organisers now need to cover. These days the police just aren't given the budget to cover this role as they did in past times (austerity). I am really concerned about it and wonder if anyone has any ideas on what can be done. Something needs to change or our sport will be seriously harmed.
My disappointment is as much the tone of the Xtra Mile Events response as the error itself. To put all of blame solely on AUKCM is to ignore their own responsibilities. Did they not physically measure it themselves when planning the route and before calling in AUKCM? For the money I thought I was getting slick reliable planning and organisation. Gutted.
