I've signed up to stratford too. Will make a change as I've only ever done big city marathons, but I am looking forward to the challenge of running the second half of the marathon almost like a long solo run...
good luck to all those training for this, hope the training goes well.
Sorry for a thread hijack, but my wife is running her first half marathon at GNR2012, we are staying at a hotel in Washington - about 10miles away from Newcastle. I won't be running so I was planning on dropping off my wife at the start, and then driving to south sheilds to collect her (expecting her to finish in around 2:20-2:30).
Are there designated pickup areas if driving to south sheilds? Neither of us are familiar with the area (we are from the West Midalnds), is it possible, easier for me to drive her to Newcastle and then drive to Sunderland and get the metro to South Shields?
We will be going back to the hotel after to grab a shower before starting the trek back down to the West Mids.
Tricky Dicky - Thanks! Some good info, there. Its something I'd like to do once, as when I started out runnig a few years ago, New York, along with London were 2 races I wanted to run...so like you, probably do it once (don't think I can afford to do it again).
I'm not going to be anywhere near the qualifying time, but have applied for the past 2 years, so this will be my 3rd application (when entries open that is!) and then hopefully I should get the entry for 2013.
jdw2000 - Thanks for the info, it was just in your previous post I mid-read and thought you had entered the ballot, which got me worried! I have applied for the last 2 NYC marathons. If I have read correctly I need to apply for 2012, which should result in an entry for 2013 if unsuccessful. Although I have also read that they are phasing that out over the next few years.
