Been meaning to post since VLM, I'm not a regular on the thread but did follow Shades training plan for VLM, my first marathon.
I say I followed Shades plan, it was loosely based on Plan1, three runs a week, taking most of the distances, though I added a few longer midweek runs later on more per Plan2. Mainly just completed distance, did the odd bit of speedwork but not much. I altered it a bit to take account of life (skiing, weddings etc!) and other races.
Completed the plan really well, aside from a late start due to illness before Christmas. I had two 20 milers pencilled in but the first was cut short to 15 due to high winds. Longest runs were a 20, two 18s and two 15s.
VLM went great and I really enjoyed it. Predictably set off too fast, not helped by being with two companions who were a bit over-enthusiastic! We slowed dramatically 17-23 for one of them who was really suffering, but that helped me stay comfortable. Aside from short walk breaks at 12, 15 and 17 I ran all the way, which I am amazed at! Finished in 5h34 with very little trouble, just one big blister and achy legs the next day.
Thanks to Shades for the plan, I'd certainly recommend it and three-a-week running for a marathon is certainly realistic for a busy working mum like me, and I didn't find it too tiring.

Can't believe I completely missed the RW forumites! I'd forgotten to look out for you, didn't really know where you'd be and found the whole Isle of Dogs/Canary Wharf confusing, it seemed to go on forever with twists and turns! Sorry guys, hope I didn't just ignore you shouting at me! My buddy was starting to suffer by then so we had slowed down and I guess I was concentrating on him.

| Ah yes, didn't put my predicted finish time down, probably 5h15 or so. |
