Pretty Muddy was good fun, there was a group warm up and then we were let lose. There were lots of obstacles, but what we weren't expecting was one where we had to do 5 push ups, 5 sit ups and 5 burpees. It came at about 4km and I was tired by then, as it was really hot and sunny! The obstacles I remember were:
Climbing over inflatable sausages (about 90cm high)
Climbing into and wading through cold muddy water (a bit deeper than ankle height)
Two cargo nets to crawl under
A cat's cradle of elasticised ropes
An A frame to get up and over
A mud pit (large inflatable swimming pool) to crawl through under ropes (with assistants throwing mud at you)
Inflatable slide into final muddy pool.
I think there were more than that, but my brain isn't working!
Good fun, much more tiring than my usual 5km pootle around my village!
I am an on-off runner (well jogger) and today I completed my first 5km race - a Race for Life Pretty Muddy. It went OK, I got a stitch early on and had to walk a bit though which was disappointing as I have been running 5km easily for weeks. I think I started off a bit fast as I was running with friends that are lots faster...so am not too sad.
The next target is a 10km race in September. I am not concerned about the distance (I have run 7km in the last few weeks), what I am worried about is the fact that I am running with the same people next time, and it is a hilly (well 'undulating') course.
Intermanaut - I read it when it came out and it has scarred me for life. I am not sure that fast food is any more nutritious than it was nine years ago but I am happy to be corrected. I still cannot eat a McDs when sober
Thanks for the update. I have a stinking cold and have been on the sofa with my daughter watching Sponge Bob for two days now... and am not much better. I keep checking the forum just to keep my brain active!
It sounds like you are doing all the right things, I found that joining Weight Watchers made me look at food differently, and also reading Fast Food Nation (can't remember who wrote it, sorry) as it put me off McDonalds for life!
Don't worry about the label on the trackies, if you keep up with this new start then you will be buying smaller ones soon enough. Let us know how your walk goes today.
