Been a long time since i entered the forums here - and this link i think i can send some encouragement through.
I completed only my third triathlon a couple of weeks ago - which happened to be the longest day. As any of you who have read the appropriate thread - as i just have will know it was a bit wet.... and a bit windy..... and a bit cold by the end of the day. However, after 15hrs 16mins on the move me and my mate Dave crossed the finish line Joint last. To reassure any of you with any concerns, any problems i had with the weather melted away at the finish line, and i still remember the day very fondly (maybe the water got into my brain?).
What i really want to say to you is though whatever your aim, the true aim is the finish line inside the 17 hours and it doesn't matter what is thrown in your way - that's what you keep looking at. At one point me and Dave had to run miles 20 and 21 in 19 minutes in order to be able to start the fourth lap - we made it with just over a minute to spare!!
Good luck to you all and i look forward to welcoming all of you into what is a truly a wonderful group of people (the chap who one waitied 7 hours in order to cheer us home and shake our hands - now you don't see that sort of behaviour too often!!!!
You take care now - and remember finishing is the aim and no one can ever take it away no matter how it is acheived (as long as its honest!)
Can someone point me in the direction of the training thread please???? I need to get my bald backside out and doing some of this stuff - although i have a little headstart on the swimming front!
Hi there - Me and my mate were talking about doing an ironman - but i think we were short sightedly looking at the Longest Day in the UK (which is not an official one). I would be a first timer, have run two London marathons - but i won't even discuss my times - but put it this way my running makes my well aged swimming look absolutely brilliant (would be happy to help anyone with that - including the current non-swimmers). Only just seen this thread - and now i have to go and check with my other half (we are getting married in August next year - probably need to check she is on board with it!!!).
Count me in as a possible until i can confirm! I'll mail my mate too!
I have not entered online as thought i would be able to do it today - does anyone know if there are any places available on the day???? If not i won't be doing it - sorry Annie.....
Annie - take it this is the race you recommended to me... Apart from having had a distinct lack of running training think i might give it a go - subject to Lou giving me permission. Will enter on line this weekend if i am allowed to
