Hi All, Well done on some good racing and hope most of you enjoyed it. As our anniversary race where we met 4 years ago, I can report I FINALLY got my sub-60 I've been trying for at this race (although course was a bit different but it's still a race PB). I was in Red C for the first time, possible had high ambitions on entering i.e. think I put 55mins, but was only a 'bit' over. I didn't get a negative split, nor did my husband who is always placed in Red A and usually a sub-40 to 40 on this race, but sadly wasn't this year. Race places would presumably be dependant on what time people put in so with this many people, they want to get off sooner rather than later, not be right at the back etc.. it's likely some percentage put quicker times. This happens also in triathlon which is very frustrating when slower swimmers go off first (myself) and faster ones put slower times so they can get out earlier. This happens all through these events I'm afraid. Timing doesn't start until you are over the timing mats if they are chipped times. Good to see Mo as I always do, however, I decided not to cheer him (bad form?) as I was saving energy for myself, which paid off until 9-10k when a large group of teenage tourists decided to run across the route (obviously many are pushing/racing harder at this point) and some even joined the race! I am embarrassed of my language however, I felt within my rights to yell 'get off the course, get out the race, get out the *ahem way of the race' at the top of my voice. Well.. if I had energy for that perhaps I should have cheered Mo! Andyp, how did you do? |
