I have done it 3 times including the 'ultra ultra' last year and it is an absolute killer! A sense of humour and the ability to suck it up is essential as the course profile is beyond silly!
Had a 1 hour sports massage on Tuesday and managed to take part in my club's mob match today which was a flat 10k. My legs didn't protest too much so I guess I'm back. Quite pleased that though I flet like s*** on the day I haven't suffered any significant injury.
Definitely not doing it next year. Although...........
Blimey! What a day. I finished in just over 4 hours with calf and hamstrings going in and out of spasm on the final run home from the steps. That actually took me longer than running 14 miles up to the summit of a 10,000 foot mountain in Switzerland 2 years ago! Well at the back of the pack but that's ok; I'm just relieved to have finished it. Thanks to all the organisers. Good job!
If you cant take a joke you shouldnt have joined! Am only up to 12 miles post injury but will drag myself round it for the third time somehow. Besides I need a new mug as the old one's cracked I think the increased distance warrants a change of tactics though. I'm thinking run the flats, jog down the hills and power walk up. What do you reckon?
