I've been out of the running 'scene' for a couple of years and getting back into it with the Loch Ness Marathon this year. Ran two marathons in the past with a PB of 4:16 at Edinburgh a few years ago, so my aim is to break the four hour mark.
My general fitness was pretty low when I started my training in April but feeling good now and dropped half a stone too (was carrying roughly a stone extra padding!). Up to nine miles for my long run this weekend and hopefully I'll feel as good as I did on my long run last week! Although this week has felt like a real slog and felt like I was running with weights around my ankles! And my damn shins are giving me some amount of hassle too!
Anyway, hope everyone has a great weekend and I look forward to following everyones up's and down's leading up to September 30th!
Shadosc, I'm sure there are a couple of bars that you can nip into at certain points and I think there are a few portaloo's along the route too. There's also plenty opportunities where there are lots of trees, etc. where you see everyone running into!
Hey folks, great to see everyones getting those miles in! I'm very jealous!
I'm a bit more optimistic this week! I've decided that I'll keep hammering into my training as good as I can but I won't be kidding myself that I'll get anywhere near the 4hr mark. I think I'll need to wait until I get a job on shore before I can put in the time to reach that. But, you never know! Edinburgh is a fast one!
On the gear subject, I bought a pair of Adidas AdiZero's. They are sooo light. I've only been using them for the gym and short fast runs. I think my feet would take a battering if I wore them for anything longer that 8/9 miles.
Looking forward to my run tonight even though the weather up here is terrible today. Luckly I live on the coast so it's more rain and wind, with less snow!
Hey folks, well another Sunday and it's another one without my long run! Working 6 am till 10ish tonight. Been doing as you suggested and running for no more than an hour at a faster pace whilst out here. Managed most night's but due to working stupid shift's, I've missed a few.
Maybe home tommorrow but then a chance I'm away again on Tuesday! Argh! As I'm sure SJ will agree with me, offshore sure can suck at times!!
Hope everyones enjoying this cold but sunny Sunday!
Well, I'm on a serious downer after my session in the gym offshore tonight. For the first time I'm actually considering giving the Edinburgh marathon a miss this year as I don't think I can push myself to do 1/3 of my training on treadmills. I missed almost 3 weeks of training until the weekend past due to the treadmill on the last rig being broken. The rig I'm on now has a cracking gym, but I'm struggling to find the motivation to even to 45 mins on the treadmill! Even though I managed 12 miles at home last Friday without any issues!
Meant to be doing atleast 13 miles at the weekend, but there is no way I can go on a treadmill for that long! Urgh!!!
Fingers crossed this will be a quick trip and I can get home to running on the tarmac again!
