Possum hopper - I did the Stinger run too - what a great race it was, definately one I will put on the list again for next year. Did you race it or take it easy? I held back but couldnt force myself to walk/run as I will for Comrades - need to get my head around that! KarenG - based on WarrenK78, sounds like a very low distance taper of a few weeks could be fine for Comrades - I did a couple of training runs on holiday recently with the lady who came 4th at Comrades last year and her top tip to me was go in to the race fresh - dont go ott on the training especially close to the race. |

Great stuff all on the nutrition tips - I think I may carry lots of gels in a couple of small bottles on a race belt then switch to solids such as potatoes or bananas once I get to give them a go. Guess I need to do a long run and take some with me or loop back home half way to see how I tolerate them Have done flat coke a few times on triathlons and worked great - seem to be able to tolerate this when not able to face more gels - but this was only 6 hours, not up to 11 or 12 Off to Club La Santa tomorrow for half term break with family - hoping to get some long runs in there - happy days! |

Hi all Starting to think about nutrition for comrades and bit of a mystery - I do gels on marathons and havent experience of going longer (yet). Anyone care to share their strategies? Guess its gunna be real food rather than sports drinks and gels. Interesting that some podcast I caught that some ultra runners seem to go for the higher fat than - though this may have been pre race. Think I will still be hitting he pasta and porridge (or weetabix) beforehand |

Calling all those who have been to Durban with their families. Currently planning to take my partner and 9 year old along for Comrades and staying in Durban initially for 9 days then 5 days at Cape Town following the race. Read lots of info about Durban - not all of it good Is it a family friendly place or one to be avoided? Is Durban a good holiday destination in general? |
