I've just signed up for Brighton. I ran the Dublin Marathon last monday which was my 4th marathon, i ran a 4hr 28m PB. Dublin is an amazing event and despite fading in the last 6 miles ( i ran a 70 minute 10k ! ) and having my garmin pack in at mile 3 i'm very keen to run it again.
After drinking my bodyweight in Guinness i've done two 3 milers this week and have now decided i should give Brighton a go as i know a few people who've ran it before who say it is a very good race.
I will be training to go below 4 hours & hope to try a 6 miler at the weekend now the aches have gone away.
Hi All - just got back after R&R in Galway spa - much needed break !
I finished in 4h 28m - 18 minutes quicker than my previous PB so was pleased with this but was hoping to get closer to the 4hr mark. My trusty Garmin 305 decided not to work ( couldnt get a satellite fix ) then when it did start working in phoenix park it turned itself off & i didnt notice for a mile. I then had to run using the time clocks and the pace setting on my 305 to work out how i was doing. I got to 20 miles in 3h 15m ( i also suffered in the wind ) and then seemed to get slower & slower & slower....running the last 10k in 73mins !! I too thought this was a fantastic event, the crowds were great, the organisation was excellent....... i might be tempted to have another go next year ( and the trip to Galway & Connemara this week was fun ! )
I am a little achy still & havent done anything more strenous than lift a Guinness or three, i promised myself a complete week off...but might hit the gym & treadmill on monday.
My next event is Wokingham Half in Feb & then Brighton Mara in April.
Evening All - was going to run tonight after work but woke up at 2am and couldnt get back to sleep ( Mind Whirring with work / race / work / race / race / work / wace / rork.... taper madness methinks ! ) So for the 3rd day on the bounce i am doing nothing......havent done that for over 6 mths !!!
Will do a cheeky little 3 miler in the morning whilst the missus goes to pilates, then i am packing and hitting the couch whilst she goes off to the rugby !
