I have a niggling problem with my right ankle which has plagued me since November. I recently rested it for 4-5 weeks, it seemed OK, did four 2 mile runs every other day and it has returned. It is slightly swollen to the eye and the area on the foot below the ankle is also slightly swollen. I can also "feel" it when walking around, not painful, but I have previously increased milage and it gets so then.
Has anybody experienced anything similar and have any idea what might be causing it and what i can do to prevent ?
Thanks,

| Thank you for your answers everybody, still not sure what I will do when the sittuation arrives. As for going whilst running, well next Marathon is Kingston, with an 8.00 start, expected pace should have me at the ten mile mark about 9.15, so if you see a tall bloke wiping his leg for no apparant reason around that time you will know why ! |

| You are, for example, ten miles in to a marathon and you feel you want to have a pee. For the moment you can hold it but it feels it may get worse and you will probably have to go later. Question is, are you better of going there at the ten mile mark or going later when you absolutely have to ? I vaguely remember seeing somewhere that if the body is de-hydrated it goes to the bladder to hydrate so if the bladder is empty are you losing your last resource ? Is any of that true or are you maybe better of emptying the bladder so that the natural passing through/hydrating process can continue ? I have tried holding and going previously when running marthons without any definitve results and wondered if anybody had any scientific evidence/answers ? |

Hi David,
Course was fine, seemed to be more than plenty of marshals on the course and of course we all had going under the bridge on our minds !
Not sure if I will be doing this again for a while, next month I will be doing the Wedding Day 7K on the same day, August will be on holiday and September may be a bit close to the Kingston marathon.
Enjoyed today, remains a good event and thank for all your efforts with the organisation and photography.
