I am doing Chester and am really pleased to find this 20 miler. I did the Preston Guild marathon last year but with the Autumn Spitfire disappearing couldn't find an autumn 20 race which I think would really have helped with confidence. Great addition to the calendar.
I was out running my usual route along unlit country roads at 4.45am this morning when an oncoming car didn't alter its course at all meaning I had to dive for the verge. They very nearly hit me and slowed down and flashed lights and blared horn as they went past. I run with a head torch and covered in hi-viz and the road at that point is wide and straight and you can see oncoming traffic for a good mile and a half so there is no way they didn't see me. I have run that route without any problems for 4 years and this has really shaken me. I didn't get any of the reg number but it was a light coloured SPV with a GB sticker. Do I just hope not to see them again or should I report this to the police to put a marker down in case of further incidents ?
Just to say I contacted the organisers about the Race Pack and they were all sent yesterday. They have resent mine as I couldn't find it in my spam folder. It does have several attachments so if you haven't had yours you may want to check too.
Hi all. I am doing the Preston marathon as my first attempt at the distance so starting to get a bit nervous now. Does anyone know please whether any information has yet been released as to location of water stations and whether there will be cups or bottles ? I have looked on the website and am signed up for the newsletters but haven't seen anything on this.
I have the Hope R4 which can also be used as a bike light. It has transformed my winter running as I run at 5am on unlit country roads and used to give this up by end October until Spring came round again until I got the Hope. Its range is amazing and it certainly alerts drivers to your presence. Might be a bit more than you need for the cycle path but worth checking out.
