I made a chocolate orange swirl cake last night. Anyone fancy a cuppa and a slice of cake?
I'm 39 and despite the running/cycling/ eating very well, my middle is spreading. Muffin top jeans is not an attractive look, so I have yesterday I did my first HIIT session. My number 3 daughter (who isn't particularly interested in running) did it with me and she is in better shape than I am this morning! 20-30 mins of HIIT is awfully hard work and I'm not sure I have enough self-discipline to do it 3/4 times a week. Going out for a slow run is much more appealing!
Welcome Legs. And you are very wise. Starting out with every other day and building up slowly will help protect you from injury.
MC - sounds like you are having a wonderful holiday
2hr run sounds great Jude. I'm looking forward to getting back to long runs in the autumn.
Last night I took my Big Girl out for a late 5k run just before bedtime. We had some old friends visiting from a distance away and once they left I could tell that she needed to run off some of the excess jumpiness and tension from the day. Apparently her friend had been talking about boyfriends the whole day, which my 12yr old has no interest in at all, thank goodness. I have three daughters just starting puberty and I'm not sure how I'm going to cope!
AF - sorry to hear about the funeral and the sadness. Hope you enjoy your holiday.
Jude - Wow! Your daughter is amazing
Franny - I'm rather envious of your short haircut. I like my hair cut, but being fairly tall and rather loud I have discovered that having long hair makes me less threatening to others. It's strange but appearances really do have an effect.
MC - hope you are enjoying Switzerland.
This morning was my 100th parkrun And just as wonderfully my 7yr old Smidge ran the whole 5k for the first time! She isn't too sure if she will keep going, but I hope she does and also falls in love with running like two of my other girls.
Hi everyone! Thanks for missing me MC tracked me down.
Yes, I've been gone for months. Sorry for being AWOL. It was a rough summer. The operation in Feb went well, but seriously affected my body/energy levels and I could only run/walk 5k. Considering I did 30miles in Oct this was rather devastating. Then when my body recovered at Easter and I was ready to run I hurt my back again. Then in May my hubby's two brothers died within a week of each other. They live over in America so hubby disappeared for 2 weeks to say 'goodbye' to them managing to do so before they lost consciousness. Rather a difficult time. Then in June hubby went away with work for two weeks.
On top of this my Big Girl (aged just 12, yr7) was so stressed with school (despite winning every award going!) having several nosebleeds a day, migraines, not sleeping and then the stomach aches/not eating started. So at the beginning of June I pulled her out of school to home educate her. A very positive mood that we both enjoy, but quite a big change to get my head round.
So running almost stopped. Big Girl and I run Smidge (who cycles) to school each day and we continue with parkrun, but that is about it. I have deferred my Aug marathon to next year. A few weeks ago I did run a 5k PB of 27:14. Big Girl did her 100th parkrun last week with a PB of 24:40. My 100th is a week Saturday.
However, I have been doing quite a bit of cycling. My 2nd daughter (aged 10) decided at the beginning of the year that she wanted to cycle from Cheshunt to Cambridge in aid of Guide Dogs. It's 46miles. So we did that yesterday I'm so proud of her. It was a hard, hot ride and by the end she was so tired she had to walk all the hills. But there was not one word of complaint or moaning. Instead when we finished she thanked me with tears in her eyes for doing it with her and helping her achieve her goal. I think she's raised almost £500.
I find running during the summer holidays really hard but in Sept I shall hopefully get back into the way of things. I guess whilst not running much, posting on here dropped from being a habit and then I just didn't back into it.
Hope everyone else is doing well. MC, I see you did the Outlaw Swim on Sunday. Congratulations
