sorry griffster, was off line for a few days. Am trying to get someone reliable to see to you .

I have pulled a small chunk of bone off my pelvis and there is still fluid around it. Bah.

Not sure what to do now. Will get back to you as soon as I can or by pm.

Thanks Fizz, It would be good to see someone recommended so to speak.

I've made an appt with the docs next week as well to try and get referred. Not sure if this will help at all but thought i'd give it a go. I specifically asked to see a Doctor whom I know does quite a lot of running. She may have a more sympathetic and proactive stance to injury than not running / exercising ever again!

I hope that injury isnt too severe, although it sounds like one that could take a while to heal? This running lark - i'm having trouble proving the 'its not good for you' brigade wrong at the moment

edit: I should add, dont feel obliged in any way but obviously any pointers or help is much appreciated. Concentrate on yourself!

Sorry! Rochdale is near Manchester, North West England.

Its not very memorable you're right

Edit: just to add a bit of detail i can replicate the issue if I stand straight and lift my leg so it bends at the knee. Then if  lift my foot inwards and up I get a pain in my hip - its quite difficult to pin point exactly. In my amateur sleuthing i've gone from IT band issues to Hip bursitis  It started by what I thought was an adductor issue - an ache when lifting my leg where the adductor is.. then spread as I thought I was taking it easy. At the moment its fine when just normal walking.

Finally back in Blighty after hols and aborted Goofy! Realised I've put on a few pounds as well with Christmas, America and no running.. oops. Clothes a bit snugger than they were a month or so ago.

Fizz - i'm in the Rochdale area,  I have a feeling you're over on the emerald isle (maybe wrong just got that impression from somewhere not sure where ) If you have any suggestions for exercises or good websites that would be great, or a recommended Physio. Quite like to try some exercises at home if poss as tbh Xmas, America and new bike has pretty much wiped me out

I've got one of those Gym balls somewhere that I bought intending to use and think that maybe useful?

Thanks for any info, appreciated

Well done fizziofinn.. congrats on a Goooood JAAWHB ..  know what you mean, i've been annoying my daughter with renditions of truuly aawsuuum for the last couple of days. Americans sure do love the word awesome.

Very interesting about what you say about the hip, when I did my fracture the hip took one hell of a jolt as I came off my bike... then the time on crutches obviously puts more pressure on one side whilst the other wastes away I guess.  I think a visit to the physio is sensible so a plan can be made, not being able to do anything drives me nuts

Edit: The hip / pelvic issue is on the opposite side to my lower leg fracture... not sure if that means its an unrelated isssue?

Edit 2: A quick google of pelvic balancing highlights lower back issues...that I have as well...hmm.. . maybe its time to give my core and pelvic muscles some attention. Keep hearing about them perhaps its time I acted

I did enjoy this mornings half, although things havent turned out quite so well for me! the game plan was to nurse my groin and hip with a walk run strategy from the off.. or from about a mile or so in. This was working quite well until around mile 7 or 8 when things started to twinge a little. By mile 11 or so I was really struggling and walking as much as running

In a nutshell I'm in some considerable discomfort. I was getting some 'feedback' from my hip whilst trawling the parks so it came as no surprise to have issues during the run. What is worrying for me is that after 5 or six weeks of complete rest to try and be fit for the start line I am still in a position where it hurts. I think some time away from running is required - it just so happens i've bought a new road bike

So, i wont be doing the marathon tomorrow. It would be utter folly to do so. Its time to draw a line under this experience and whilst it hasnt ended how i'd like i've learnt some valuable lessons. It all went wrong really when I fractured my fibula in June and lost a couple of months training and fitness - whilst playing catch up my body broke down and it was downhill from there. The lesson is that there is no shortcut running these distances, no matter how hard you try.

The very best for tomorrow to fellow runners, oh and Fizz - loads of fellas pee'ing in the bushes
