I would be tempted, Shedboy, to say let her pace herself, unless she specifically wants you to, because PR is very much about running your own race, no? It's our hundredth run anniversary at Park run tomorrow! Woo hoo! And my brother in law is running too for the first time at that one. I'm going to run naked. As in, without my watch, I think.
Howard if you do one thing, do Parkrun. It's the best! Community - I've made so many friends. Competition - I've knocked around 2 and a half minutes off my 5K PB in the couple of years I've been doing it. The list goes on. And the usual running truisms apply about all sorts of different people/speeds etc.
And so super well done on your 10 miles. You are an inspiration. I did 3.1 yesterday and will try to do the same tomorrow. That's it! =)
Yes, FRC. Thinking was/is that if I wear a shoe without a heel that I would automatically begin to mid foot plant. I think that this was the case initially, but like you say, it's not automatic.Especially when tired. I still need to consciously pay attention to not heel striking. More thought required that I assumed. Yes I did used to wear a support shoe, but the guy in the running shop who sold me the brookes said that if you are wearing a minimal shoe like that and running on the mid foot, then support was irrelevant. A bit like the ideology of the trail shoe. Pronation not an issue in the same way? No biggie, just something I need to focus on. Since it's my key to do doing sub 4? I've decided! Heh.
