Well done everyone who finished. It must have been a hell of a run - i did it in 2002 and 38,000 did it with me and I vowed never to do it again cos it was just too full but yesterday must have been somat else!

My re hab is just getting going again. Up to 20 miles per week at around 8.20 min/miling. So far mild stiffness in the morning but a good stretch and attempt to remember to heel strike for the first two miles of any run have kept it at that.

The real point of this message is to ask if anyone else has read the bit on AT in Lore of Running (you can stretch your achilles by standing on it it is so thick!) That book suggests that over 35s nearly everyone gets it and regularly stretching and treating with anti inflam spray can virtually cure it. Not sure I agree but it is a strong case for saying just put up with it! perhaps he means if you have the pleasure of a two hour ten minute marathon then it's worth a little pain!

Has anyone else noticed that driving seems to exacerbate the situation. Living in the North West I sometimes drive out into the country to start my run and this doesn't help. Also I keep spare kit in the car so that if I am anywhere scenic and have spare hour I can go for a run - this really makes the achilles ache for about 20 minutes!

Strange article the achilles one. I suffer from tendonitis and, as the article says it tends to disappear after a couple of miles.

Am I right to run on this or should I stop and treat it.

As I am now 44 I think all my years of jumping out of the door with no stretching or anything have caught up with me!
