This would have been my first race but sadly I'm still injured so I had to miss it

I got all my kit ready last night, went to bed early hoping that I would be fit in the morning but decided last minute that it's not worth the risk

Hopefully soon I will be able to continue & find a suitable event to run my first race

All the doctor told me that my level was 6.9 & it should be below 5

I was kinda hoping that my leg injury was the blame for my high cholestrol level

  Non-Runner,

Are you suggesting that  it's possible that my leg injury is causing my high cholestrol levels because of inflammation?

edit..

I've just read up on it now, I see what you mean.

Thanks for all the advice

As far as my diet is concerned I used to eat alot of cheese for my lunch at work (ham & cheese sandwiches) but the last month or so I cut them out alltogether & now have a tin of Tuna salad instead

I also eat alot of fruit each day, usually two bananas for breakfast then apples, pears, peaches etc throughout the day until lunch where I finish whatever fruit I have left along with my tuna salad.

I don't drink that much milk either, the milk I do consume is semi skimmed & is only used in my tea & coffee & I only have one teaspoon of sugar instead of three that I used to have about 2 years ago

I don't eat much red meat, infact I can't remember the last time I have a good old steak. The only red meat I can think off will be the mince I use for spagetti bolognase & that is only once every couple of months or so, I might also occasionly have bangers & mash

I love my veg & most of my meals will have some sort of veg in it I also eat alot of fish & chicken based meals.

I know that prawns are high in cholestrol & I have over the last few months included them in my diet. so I will have to cut down.

I don't know if I have a family history of high cholestrol problems so I will have to check

After months of getting fitter thought running I never felt better

So much so that after I was bitten by the running bug I thought it would be an opportunity to do a few small races to prepare myself for my ultimate goal of completing a marathon.

Unfortunalty a few months ago I got a leg injury that would not heal even after resting for two weeks at  time, to make maters worse I appear to also have a trapped nerve that is now making me limp when I walk.

I went to the doctors to get some advice because I did not want to stop as I have my first 10k race over the weekend, I gave a routine blood sample & he got me to make an appointment with the Physio

Anyway, yesterday I got my blood results back & to add insult to injury it now turns out that my cholestrol level is too high,

This news took the wind out my sails as I thought I was pretty healthy especially now that I have been running, losing weight etc.

I feel so let down, I was looking forward to my first race

My cholestral level is 6.9 by the way, It should be below 5

I can't even think of what foods to cut out because I do generally eat healthily, No fried breakfasts, no, take aways & I don't drink that much either
