I don't visit the forum as often as I should

I've dabbled in running, I am a member of a ladies only running club - most I've ever entered in for is a 10k - although completing the Preston Guild series which includes a half marathon next month! 10k tomorrow, 10 miler November, already done the 5k.

I'm a slow plodder runner and eariler in the year put a ballot entry in for the London marathon - no charity, no special cause etc, so assumed 99.9% chance of not getting in.

Well I now have a place!  I'm bricking it.  how do I train? What do I eat? More importantly, I need to book a hotel room now for next year, how do I find a reasonably priced room for me and my doubting husband and daughter.

Plus, I would only do it if I raised some money for charity - how do I decide which of the worthwhile causes that arrived with my pack do i do it for.

I am usually  a normal, professional, rational person but this has thrown me.

I don't want a sub certain time, I just want to finish!

Any help, advice, pointers etc would be greatly appreciated

Cheers!

Hi All

Its been absolutely ages since I've been on this forum - I joined the beginners forum and then there was lots of talk of 10ks and half marathons and it put me off a little.

I have been a 'beginner' for a couple of years now and been part of a ladies only running club.  I am a very slow runner and very jealous of you managing the 10m/m!

I can't seem to break the 12 min mile.

Hubby now thinks I am having a mid life crisis - I am entering 5k and 10ks all across Lancashire!

I've recently made myself go to the 'proper' club on a Thursday evening where they concentrate on distance - the Wednesday one I go to is more of a social event really.

Anyway, enough of me rabbitting on - hopefully I'll have chance to visit this forum more often -  I could do with sharing my progress with someone!!!

Did Bupa Manchester 10k today, by no means as impressive as some posted here, it was my first go at a 10k and did it in 1 hr 10 mins, so I am really pleased.

I have to say the crowds were fantastic, when I looked like I was flagging a bit, the shouted out my name cos it was on the race number.

I want to find another one to run!!!

HI Jack

I seem to have been a walk/runner for ages and I was doing the same couple of routes of around 5k.

I then loked on the map and found a horseshoe but of road that did a semi circle before bringing me back on my normal route - it added about half a mile onto my route.

I think the August edition of Runners World also said something about trying to add on half a mile to a 'long run' to the last longest distance you have done if that makes sense.

But I have decided its not important on the distance, its about getting out there and giving it a go!

Sorry, I'll stop rambling now....

Hi All

I'm quite happy heading out for a run by myself, still stop for a bit of a walk a couple of times in a 5k.

I want to do a 5 mile race in February and I am thinking of joining a running club, just so I will be pushed - I can be a bit lazy......

I am nearly 42 and have only started running earlier this year so I would like a friendly club who caters for absolute beginners like me

I also don't go out an train as often as I should - particularly as the nights get darker.

Anyone know of any such club - Preston or nearby surrounding areas would be fine!

Any help would be appreciated
