6 gels!! wowsers. No way I could stomach that lot without being sick, same goes for 1.7litres of fluid. But, I suppose it's all relative isn't it. Depends how long you're out there and what you're used to. For me, I don't think people need half as much fluid or fuel as they think they do, but each to their own. I saw a guy at Chester on the start line with a full gel belt carrying maybe 10-15 gels
I don't tend to take a lot on in longer races as I often have stomach issues, but if you want to do as well as you are capable if, I think you can't avoid It. At Chester last weekend, I had three gels and I took a mouthful of water or sports drink (whatever was going) at each drink stop but nothing more. I finished just under three hours and I definitely felt I needed the gels to keep going strong. I might have managed on two but the boost I got from having an extra one was very welcome.
Ive vie tried converting to fat burning, and I often do long runs without eating but it definitely hampers top end performance for me when racing so I've jacked that idea in. Eating less gels than you need just means hitting the wall more comprehensively In my experience and it's not pleasant.
My my advice would be to practice in training and work out how many you need to take and how frequently to strike a balance between no stomach problems and max performance. Anyone doing a three hour marathon shouldn't need any more than 3-4 gels as an absolute max anyway as far as I'm concerned.
I did a light exercise bike session on Monday and ran Tuesday but easy running only with the club. Legs are feeling pretty good again now, although I won't be doing anything hard for a couple of weeks. Foam roller tonight and I'll be running again tHe next few days, keep the blood flowing. Once you master recovery running the benefits are fantastic.
£17.99 for a 30second video clip of the finish? I don't think so somehow. That actually is ridiculous.
As always with these things, they're just too pricey. If you could download a single image for a fiver I bet an awful lot of people would do just that. Make it £18 and most won't bother. Surely they would make more by lowering the prices but what do I know.
