Hi Mike,
I recently passed all of the assessment stages for West Mercia and am due to start training in April. Training is c.19 weeks at your force HQ and at training school, and then 2 years probationary on the beat. There's loads of info on this on various sites. Also, for a more upbeat message than Marky boy's, check out this thread from the ukpoliceonline forum...

...there's lots on there about different forces, the duration of the application procedure etc. Good luck with your application!

Be really careful on the rowing machine, though - you could do so much more harm than good if your technique isn't pinsent-perfect. I've given up since I started getting disc problems over the summer, and even thinking about pulling on an oar makes me cringe now, let alone a 2k - that's a pretty evil warm up Livers!

Cheers Mel,
What a pain, I hope you sort them out soon and get your chance to prove them wrong at the fitness!
Best of luck,
Helen.

None these days, Hildegard. You have to bench press and seated row 35kg, and grip 33kg. good blinking job, really. the old test for some forces used to be 'press ups till exhaustion', and the number you should do worked out from your age, weight, gender, etc. scary!
