Cant coment on Manchester but did Edinburgh last year as my first Marathon, the out and back bit is a little boring and demoralising for us slower runners but friendly atmosphere all the way round. There is a relay marathon at the same time so expect fresh runners joining at different parts of the course. Bit busier than Liverpool but it was the heat that got to me but still managed to finish, support was good with people handing out sweets and hosing the runners to keep them cool.
A friendly, well organised and enjoyable race and im going back in 2013 having said that I think Liverpool was better.
Have to add my thanks to everyone concerned with the organising, running and participating in the Liverpool marathon, an excellent course with really well spaced water sections. The spectators and volunteers give so much encouragement especially if like me your running very slowly at the back of the field which can sometimes be a lonely existance, 5:42:22 time but finished all the same.
Only my second marathon but am seriousely considering a repeat next year, if my feet ever stop hurting!
Im back again this year, enjoyed last years despite the heat so have some unfinished business. I found as my first marathon it was a very good experience with good organisation and support. Also a great city so will make a weekend of it again.
Ive got Liverpool in a couple of weeks so will have something to compare tt with.
Surprisingly I felt ok just a couple of days after the marathon but have delayed running to make sure i get a full rest. Ive got the GNR again this year and Ive signed up for Liverpool marathon in October so will pretty much pick up from where I left off as far as mileage is concerned.
Will probably do Edinburgh again next year as i feel i have some unfinished business.
